Doctors in the practice may be contacted during normal operating hours. If the doctor is with a patient, the receptionist will take your details and the nature of your problem and forward this onto the doctor. In an emergency, your call will always be put through to a doctor or a nurse.
The doctors at Carlton Clinic will include you on our database as a reminder for pap smears, immunisations and other preventative health care issues. If you do not wish to be included on the database, please advise us.
Repeat Prescriptions, Referrals and Pathology Test Results
Doctors providing prescriptions, referrals to specialists or pathology test results are responsible ethically and legally to ensure these are correct and warranted. Therefore, a consultation with a doctor will be necessary.
Records will be kept of your visits and treatment. They are confidential. The contents will be divulged only with your consent or where justified by law. You are entitled to see or correct your patient record at any stage. Carlton Clinic complies with the Privacy Act 1988 and other relevant legislation covering the way we collect, store, use and disclose health information.
It may be necessary for parts of your medical record to be disclosed to other medical professionals who are providing you with treatment, or tests, or during activities necessary to operate our practice (for example, to our insurer or to the organisation paying for your treatment). For more information, please refer to our Privacy Policy Statement available in the waiting room and at reception.
From time to time this practice invites patients to complete a questionnaire on their views as to ways in which the practice can be improved. This survey is kept confidential, and helps us to improve our services. We take your concerns, suggestions and complaints seriously. We encourage you to fill out a Patient Feedback Form and lodge it in the Suggestion Box.
If you are concerned about any aspect of the service you receive at our practice, we are keen to hear about it. Please speak to the Practice Manager Lee Schleger or your doctor to discuss your concerns.
We believe problems are best dealt with in the practice, however, if you feel the need to discuss a matter outside the practice, you may contact the Victorian Health Services Commissioner. Their contact details are:

In addition to standard medical centre services, we offer a range of minor operations including cryotherapy and minor surgery. We suture lacerations and treat non-displaced fractures. All our surgical instruments are sterilised to prevent cross infection.
Contraception including implanon and diaphragm fittings. Requests for IUD will be referred to a gynaecologist.
The Carlton Clinic has always prided itself on providing excellent medical care to Melbourne's queer community, with almost twenty years, continuous service to our clients, many of whom are gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender individuals. The Carlton Clinic has been vocal in support of the rights of our clients, both within the queer community, and throughout the broader community. We have been involved in the struggle against HIV/AIDS from the beginning of the epidemic, taking a leading role among Melbourne's medical community.
At the end of 1998 The Carlton Clinic entered a new phase as we moved to larger, more comfortable rooms at 88 Rathdowne St, Carlton. Our new premises are located in a National Heritage-listed building that was at one time a convent run by an Italian order of nuns who looked after sick priests. Some of our older patients can recall dropping in for afternoon tea with the nuns. Their motto "Ego sum pastor bonus" can be seen above our front door.
We aim to continue to provide excellent medical care in a friendly environment, serving the needs of our patients.
